Zara urges government to allow boda bodas to operate

Updated: Aug 22, 2020

South Africa based Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan has urged the government to uplift the lockdown by letting businesses operate in order for people to survive during this period of coronavirus.

She says, “Plea to the Ugandan Government. It’s a humble request to lift the lockdown. Let Boda Bodas operate, the crime rate will rise with no income. Let saloons operate too, so they can put food on the table.

The mother of five also begged President Museveni to review the curfew times.

“Reopen arcades, business people are sitting idle. Just to mention a few. Let curfew hours be revised as well. It’s a humble request. Thank you in advance.” She concluded.

This came after Zari criticized the presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine via a live video on her Facebook account claiming he does not have credentials to lead the country.

Her unapologetic act upset many People Power supporters making her question as to why they are so emotional that they want change just for the sake of it.

“We do not disagree with your opinion, but why do you have a problem when we share ours? We are entitled to our opinions like you are entitled to yours. Do not intimidate me. I believe in what I support,” she fumed.

On June 4 2020, Uganda re-opened its public transport with taxis, buses caring only half of their passenger capacity and shopping malls after 2 months of restrictions in the country.

And With the increasing cases, the President does not want to take more chances that is why Boda Bodas and other businesses are still suspended until the pandemic has flattened.

This has forced Ugandan boda-boda operators to sue the government at the High Court in Kampala for not allowing them to resume passenger transport.

The Boda Boda Association, National Federation of Professional Cyclists Network (NFPC) insists that Museveni is acting in a discriminatory manner by allowing other businesses, particularly other public transport service providers, to re-open.
