Celebrated media personality Douglas Lwanga is set to join one of the biggest entertainment channels on the African continent. It is said that MTV Base approached Douglas in April and the management of this famous media house has been in talks with the star.
If the lucrative deal succeeds, the down-to-earth TV Star’s pockets will swell since he will earn thrice the salary he earns on Next media's NBS Television channel.
A few months back, Douglas Lwanga was also rumoured to be deserting his show on NBS TV for Trace Muziki, a platinum regional TV station which he trashed claiming that it was false news.
Douglas has over two million followers and this has yielded him so many opportunities in the media industry. In June 2020, Champion Bet Uganda, a registered gaming company in Uganda appointed him as their brand ambassador.
At the launch of the partnership at Levels Lounge in Kampala, Douglas Lwanga was tasked with the role of representing Champion Bet on social media and publicizing their corporate social responsibility campaigns (CSR).
In his speech, Lwanga said that he had come to add on what Champion Bet has built and managers revealed that the ambassadorial deal was to thrive until the two parties agree to terminate it. However, the salary was kept secret.
“I will be headlining activations, charity activities and CSR campaigns countrywide to make sure that people understand the brand even more,” Lwanga elaborated.
In the recent interview, the humble-looking TV Star revealed that he does not like being called a celebrity. The word has been misused by people who act arrogantly, stepping on people’s heads since they think they are famous.
He said that his desire has always been to be a simple man and that is why he even uses his real names because fame can never change a person.
He started his career in the entertainment industry in 2010. After attaining a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication at Makerere University, Douglas looked for a job where he would dress casually as it was always his dream known to his friends since s.6 vacation.
He got the first job at Record TV in 2010 and he started a music show called ‘Katogo’ which greatly popularized the TV station.
The start wasn’t an easy one as many people criticized him saying that he was a blunt chap who did not deserve to be on air. Some people among the audience were so unwelcoming to the extent that they criticized everything about him starting from the way he presented to his dressing code.
Some people had free airtime to call in and just abuse him. He says he can never forget some radio presenters who spent their entire shows insulting him but he thanks God because today, the same people who used to abuse him then are the ones praising him now.
So many people are confused by the continuous oscillation of Douglas from one media house to another, that he never settles in one place.
To address this, he said that the consistent need to grow his career has been a paramount factor for his movements.
He says that when one stays in the same place for a very long period of time, their brains become dormant and unchallenged but as they move to new places, it becomes compulsory to think a little harder and start something new.
However, he disclosed the difficulty encountered in the transition from one channel to another.
It is not always easy to transfer the fan base used to you being on a certain channel at a particular time to another channel.
Somehow every change has been in his favor since even when he goes to another TV channel, his shows have been in the same time frame posing least effect on his audience.
He is so grateful to Record TV because it introduced him to the cameras and gave him the confidence to speak to a big audience, NTV taught him professionalism and NBS is teaching him diversity.
Next Media Services has been an eye-opener to Douglas because it has given him an opportunity to work on Next Radio and do events apart from being on screens.
Being an experienced media personality, Lwanga says it is easier to present on the radio because people are not seeing you, unlike TV.
On TV screens, it is very hectic because people ignore the sense that you are trying to deliver and judge how you look and dress.
He recalls a certain lady who abused the jacket he was wearing when he had just started working with Record TV and since then he learned that the television defines one’s style.
‘’The fact that I work on television actually defines my style. A lady insulted my jacket yet I thought it was very nice. Since that day, I learned that television is beyond what we communicate but rather considers how you look.’’ Douglas explained.
The celebrated TV Star never takes sides in celebrity fights because he realized that as one speaks on media, his audience has different tastes and preferences.
When the presenter takes a side, he creates division among the fans, excluding a certain section of the fan base.
That is why he never sided with any of the big three – Chameleone, Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine who had fierce wrangles at the time he had just entered the entertainment industry.
Despite being a popular TV and Radio presenter, Douglas also has his favorite TV presenters.
He says Calvin the Entertainer from UBC and MC Kats, his co-presenter on NBS TV are currently his besties in the media.
He says he’s a tight friend to MC Kats despite calling him a traitor when he forcefully took him to a rehabilitation centre.
He says everything he does for him is out of love and he is ready to stand by him in all circumstances, never let him down.
Is Douglas Lwanga married? In 2010, at the age of 25, Douglas married Eunice Nuwamanya, with whom he has a son, but the two separated a few years after the marriage.
However, right now the digital influencer is not searching. He is in a stable relationship with Linda Lisa, a PRO at Club Guvnor.
It is strange to know that this media personality is an introvert. He loves spending most of his free time indoors, he does not like going to bars like other media personalities. He enjoys watching movies and maybe going to the beach.
When he leaves work at 8 pm, he returns home and watches political shows. He thinks it is necessary to know and keep track of policies in the country because artists used to be really blind and not mind what was happening around them.
He does not listen to music outside work but he says John Blaq, Spice Diana, and Feffe Bussi are his preferred artists. He has been sighted on many occasions putting on jeans, T-shirts, and Converse but he has formal outfits too.
