TOP STARS, ATHLETES THAT ARE INFECTED WITH CORONAVIRUS

As the total number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase across the globe, some of the most well-known celebrities have been diagnosed with the illness.


Among the more than 179,000 cases recorded globally are government officials, celebrities and sports personalities as authorities around the world announced that they've tested positive for coronavirus and entered self-isolation.


Idris Elba

The British actor and musician on March 16 announced that he tested positive for COVID-19 despite having no symptoms.

This morning I tested positive for COVID 19,” he captioned a video on Twitter. “I feel OK; I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus. Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing 👊🏾👊🏾 No panic.”


Since then, the 47-year-old actor has quarantined himself and urged followers to take care of themselves.



Sophie Grégoire Trudeau

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife tested positive for the coronavirus on March 12 following a trip to the United Kingdom.


Sophie Gregoire Trudeau announced that she had tested positive, saying she planned to remain in isolation for the next two weeks, together with her husband.


“She is feeling well, is taking all the recommended precautions and her symptoms remain mild,” Trudeau’s office said in a statement.


Trudeau’s office said Thursday night that Justin Trudeau is taking doctors’ advice by undergoing 14 days of isolation.


Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

Tom Hanks, one of America's most iconic actors and wife Rita Wilson had been isolated in stable conditions in a Gold Coast hospital in Australia. Tom Hanks tested positive while in Australia to film a movie.


The popular Hollywood couple was infected by the coronavirus on March 11 and placed in quarantine. However, ever since the couple was released from the hospital, they have been in self-quarantine at their home, a representative for Hanks said.


They used a social media post to thank “everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us.”


Rudy Gobert

Rudy was the first professional basketball player to be diagnosed with novel coronavirus and said he wished he had taken the virus seriously.


"I wish I would have taken this thing more seriously and I hope everyone else will do so because we can do it together," Gobert said.


He was seen touching microphones and voice recorders at a media event on March 9 carelessly and he later turned to social media to apologize publicly for being careless.


The NBA Utah Jazz basketball star’s test result led to NBA’s decision to suspend its season.

Gobert donated more than $500,000 to assist people affected by the virus and related closures.


Blaise Matuidi

Matuidi, 32, is the second Juve player to be tested positive for the coronavirus, following center-back Daniele Rugani last week.


"The Juventus and France midfielder has been in voluntary home isolation and is asymptomatic." The Serie A side said in a statement on Tuesday.

All domestic sporting activity in Italy has been suspended until at least 3 April.


Mikel Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta became the first in England's football Premier League to be diagnosed with the coronavirus.


The 37-year-old was forced into self-isolation thus prompting Arsenal to quickly shut down their London Colney training ground.

The COVID-19 outbreak in football also led to the Premier League suspending all matches until at least April 4.
