Pallaso claims Police stole 14M and a smartphone during the scuffle

Updated: Aug 23, 2020

Ugandan artist Pius Mayanja aka Pallaso has accused Uganda police of stealing his $4000 (UGX 14M) from his pocket as he was being arrested on Thursday morning at his home in Makindye.

During an interview on the UNCUT show on NBS, Pallaso states that he is very innocent and that he was just chilling with his friends and his manager when the police broke into his house.

“I was chilling with my manager and a few friends then we heard people knocking at the gate. Shortly after, they forcefully entered, pointed guns at us.

At first, I could not identify that they were police officers because they were not in uniform. Said Pallaso

“They said that we were shouting and I joked about it before one of the officers ordered my arrest.

My friends tried to block them because they had started beating me up and in the process, they stole my money. I had 4000 dollars on me. They also took my Samsung phone,” Pallaso narrated.

However, according to the police one of Pallaso’s neighbours informed them that the noisy situation at the singer’s resident was about to give them a sleepless night.

"Our team responded to the scene and found the allegations to be true. A group of over 30 people at Luwafu in the home of Pius Mayanja had gathered, playing loud music, drinking and not following the safety guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health against COVID-19.” Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire stated.

“The team commander reached out to Pallaso and the team to reduce the volume of their music and reminded them of the guidelines that prohibit gatherings similar to theirs," added Owoyesigire.

The police were able to arrest two people, a one Henry Kasozi who is still in police custody and Pius Mayanja (Pallaso) who varnished with the handcuffs.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire confirmed that Pallaso had managed to escape from custody and that they are looking for him on charges of escaping from lawful custody and obstruction.

Currently, the wanted Ugandan singer is his nursing wounds at an unknown hospital in Kampala.
