Uganda's Prime Minister in Self-Isolation after Close Contacts Develop Coronavirus Symptoms

Uganda's Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda who has been at the frontline in the country's fight against COVID-19 has self-isolated from the public after his close contacts tested positive for #Coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health in Uganda announced on Sunday that seven of its front-line workers have tested positive for COVID-19. The confirmed cases included 3 nurses, 2 doctors and 2 senior-level staff.


Prime Minister posted on his social media that his close contacts had tested positive for coronavirus and revealed that he was going into self-isolation.

Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda the Chairperson of the Anti-COVID-19 national task has been pivotal in the fight against COVID-19 in Uganda flanked by the Health Minister Dr Ruth Aceng in addition to the National task force.


The Prime Minister’s announcement comes at a point when Uganda confirmed 35 new COVID-19 cases, raising the number of the infection to 557.


Frontline workers that tested positive for COVID-19 are admitted at Entebbe Grade B and Mulago National Specialized Hospital, the Ministry of Health reports that they are all in stable condition. 


"A team of experts specialized in Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC), Case Management and Psychosocial management are currently in the various places where health workers tested positive to evaluate the response and investigate what could have led to the unfortunate infection of the health workers," the Ministry said.


The Ministry of Health routinely tests health workers based on the high chances of exposure to the virus.
