Uganda police impounds 39 motorcycles in Aswa

Police attached to Aswa River Region has impounded 39 motorcycles, 18 Motor Vehicles and arrested 18 suspects in an operation to enforce the Presidential directive to shut down public transport and markets.

Aswa River Region Spokesperson ASP Jimmy Patrick Okema said they have impounded 20 motorcycles, 6 motor vehicles from Gulu carrying passengers.


ASO Jimmy Okema continued to reveal that 6 drivers from Gulu were arrested. In Agago county 5 motorcycles, 3 motor vehicles and 2 suspects were apprehended.

In Kitgum and Lamwo a total of 10 drivers were arrested for defiance and obstruction of police directives on duty, 14 motorcycles, and 10 motor vehicles were impounded.


“I would like to confirm to you that yesterday we had a very successful enforcement task force team in all the 8 Districts in Aswa Region, where we thank all bus, taxi, Boda Boda owners, Tuku-Tuku for parking their machines voluntarily”, Okema said.

He said the enforcement task force was successful in all the districts of Aswa Region where all drivers and riders voluntarily parked and the stubborn ones were made to park forcefully.

According to Okema he encouraged people to follow strictly the presidential directives and urged all the sub-county leadership and village LC’s to carry on enforcements in the villages.

“We encourage people to follow the presidential directives and all sub-county leadership and LCs should support the enforcement to stop further spread of #Coronavirus,” Okema added.
