UGANDA COVID-19 CASES JUMP TO 1000

Uganda has hit 1000 cases of coronavirus with no deaths in the country after the Ministry Of Health confirmed 23 new cases on Wednesday.

These new cases were diagnosed from Ugandan nationals who returned from abroad and were still quarantined at the time of the test.

During the press release on Thursday, they said these cases were confirmed from the 3,316 samples that were tested shooting the number to 1000 mark.

Dr Henry Mwebesa, the director-general of health services at the ministry of health says eight people returned from Afghanistan, three from DR Congo and one from South Sudan.

“Three patients arrived via Mutukula, Afoji and Madi open points of entry while eight were contacts and alerts from Tororo, Hoima, Luweero, Kyotera and Arua districts”. He said.

More 31 cases of foreign truck drivers who tested positive for the virus at the border points of entry border were returned back to their countries of origin.

They included 24 Kenyans, 3 Tanzanians, 2 DR Congo nationals, one Rwandan and one South Sudanese who tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.


With the high number of cases in the country, Uganda has registered 908 recoveries, which include both Ugandans and other nationals who were being quarantined.

However, Uganda’s cumulative COVID-19 tests stand at 219,627 with no death related to the pandemic.


Uganda confirmed its first case of COVID-19 on 21 March 2020 of a 36-year-old Ugandan male who arrived from Dubai aboard Ethiopian Airlines.
