Nasser Ntege Ssebagala joins Bobi Wine's NUP

Updated: Aug 23, 2020

The former Mayor of Kampala City, Nasser Ntege Ssebaggala has officially joined the National Unity Platform (NUP) a political party under the leadership of Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

The veteran businessman also called Seya by his Kampala supporters registered and picked his NUP membership card earlier Friday.

It was all joy as he told the press that his partnership with the government of the young people would enable him to provide counsel based on his long political experience.

“Am now a true member of the NUP Party and happy to be part of the group initiating to change leadership in the country.” He said.

On Tuesday, Kyagulanyi and his accomplices launched the National Unity Platform membership card which he said would cost only Shs. 1000 to obtain.

On 17th July 2020, Al Hajji Nasser Ssebagala declared his intentions to run for the Kampala Lord Mayor slot in the 2021 elections as he picked nomination forms at party Headquarters in Kamwokya.

He also revealed that he is not afraid of the young people he is set to compete within the mayoral race.

Victory over the incumbent Erias Lukwago, Joseph Majanja aka Jose Chameleon among others will be inevitable since he has been in the political field since 1998 and has the full support of #PeoplePower.

He has all the necessary skills to 'Chinalize' ( Making Uganda be like China) Uganda as he had mentioned at the time of picking People Power forms at Kamwokya headquarters.

As Sebaggala tries to make people believe in his new political decision, many have given it a benefit of doubt.

Supporters say that Ssebagala can only convince babies born after 2007 because the Ex-Mayor has been oscillating in a number of political parties.

They argued that Seya is a political hawker. For instance, In 1998, he began his political career by running for the position of Mayor of Kampala under the Democratic Party which he won by beating two government-sponsored candidates.

Before even supporters were convinced of his political colour, Mr Seya broke away from the Democratic Party (DP), after losing party presidential primaries to Ssebaana Kizito.

He then registered himself as an independent but then a week later, he swallowed his words and announced his support for Kizito.

When his new political party, the Liberal Democratic Party failed in 2010 Ssebagala revealed his political true colours.

He duped President Museveni with stories of him being a genius and a good political mobilizer able to persuade Kampala citizens to vote for the NRM government.

His intermittent movements from one political party to another have left many concluding he is an opportunist who jumps on every bandwagon.

According to many, Seya’s membership in the National Unity Platform party is seasonal and his membership will cease immediately the #PeoplePower fire dies out.
