Museveni unveils a stunning manifesto ahead of 2021 elections

Updated: Aug 23, 2020

President Museveni who is the resumptive sole candidate for the 2021 Presidential elections has come up with a new manifesto to gain votes from alienated Ugandans.

More Ugandans are switching their support from the ruling NRM government to People Power pressure group under the leadership of Bobi Wine.

President Museveni has promised to steer the country towards fighting the coronavirus disease, income inequality, regional trade and the East African federation if elected in January 2021.

Museveni was yesterday nominated for the position of ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson and the party's presidential candidate in the 2021 elections.

“The way forward, first of all, is deepening modernization but also regional integration. The manifesto team is working the details. By deepening modernisation, I mean wealth distribution. There is wealth but not well distributed,” Museveni said.

The president was nominated by the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda for the position of party chairman and two seconders were Mr Gadafi Nasur, the National Youth League chairperson, and Ms Amina Lukanga resident of Makindye in Kampala.

Museveni was accompanied by First Lady Janet Museveni at the NRM Headquarters in Kyadondo to return his nomination forms as the NRM presidential candidate for the 2021 general polls.

Last week, Museveni collected papers as he sought nomination as the ruling party’s candidate with no one else showing up to vie against him in the party.

The 75-year-old has so far won five presidential elections since he rose to power in 1986.

Previously, a person who is above 75 years and bellow 35 wouldn’t be allowed to stand for President.

But about three years ago, the Ugandan parliament controversially removed the age cap from the constitution, allowing him to seek another term.

Despite being criticized for refusing to leave office, Museveni is still craving for power and hopes for the sixth term in office.
