Despite the lock down in Italy, the number of deaths have rose by 427 to 3405 in a day more than in china.
On Wednesday, china confirmed that it had no deaths for the first time since it’s where the virus originated last year.
China seems to have staunched the virus with strict measures including a complete quarantine of Wuhan since January.
The numbers of cases in China are more than 81,000 which is still far higher than in Italy.
On 12 March, Italy shut down most businesses and banned public gatherings as it tried to halt the spread of the virus.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said the national lock down, which has been copied around Europe, would be prolonged to April 3.
"We will not be able to return immediately to life as it was before," he said.
Italy, with its population of 60 million people has a total of 41,035 confirmed cases , with 3,405 deaths, and 4,440 recoveries as of 19 March 2020.
In a report by the Istituto Superiore di Sanita, there were 2,003 in the north who were confirmed to be positive with the coronavirus and were far the worst hit.
So far, the majority of people who have died in Italy have been the elderly population those older than 70 years old, UN and Italian health authorities cited.
Italy confirmed its first case of the COVID-19 on 31 January 2020 during the 2019–20 worldwide pandemic when two Chinese tourists in Rome tested positive for the virus.
And later, a number of cases were detected starting with cases in Lombardy on 21 February, then more 60 cases and by the beginning of March, it had already spread to all the regions of Italy.
Europe has now become the new epicenter of the pandemic that is killing thousands and devastating the global economy.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University in the US, there have been nearly 2220,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus globally with at least 84,000 recoveries.
