China is a key market for Apple the region makes up nearly 17% of the company's total sales. And the iPhone is Apple's biggest profit driver.
Apple bagged a significant smartphone shipment jump in China last month as the world’s largest consumer electronics market, official data indicate.
The latest data affirms expectations that the iPhone 11 is selling more strongly than its predecessor, particularly in a market that’s second only to the US in its importance to Apple’s bottom line according to CNN.
After a peak period in 2015, iPhone sales in China stagnated due to factors including longer upgrade cycles and competition from Chinese rivals.
Demand for iPhones appears to be flourishing once again in China, a year after Apple CEO Tim Cook had to warn investors that the Chinese market was facing a serious slowdown.
The good news was reflected in Apple's stock, which was up nearly 2% to a record high.
But the iPhone 11, which Apple introduced in September with better camera technology and battery life, as well as lower-than-expected prices, has helped with the rebound, according to an investor Dan Ives from Wedbush analyst.
Early demand for the new model was strong, and in Apple’s October earnings call, Cook noted that the company’s prospects in China were turning around.
iPhone sales in China were up 18% in December from the same month a year earlier, an even better performance which is good news for Apple after iPhone sales tumbled in China over the past year.
"Our belief that China will continue this positive upward trajectory with renewed growth and share gains on the heels of an iPhone 11 product cycle which the sceptics continue to underestimate," Ives said.
After years of stagnation in cameras, the company also overhauled the iPhone’s image quality in 2019. This approach drew an overwhelmingly positive reception from critics.
The new iPhone 11 has a new 12MP selfie camera, with its triple camera 12MP shooter comprising of 23mm wide lens and an ultra-wide snapper. It can do regular 4K clips at 60fps, or 4K at 30fps according to gsm arena.
Probably the most awesome feature, showing off the power of Apple's imaging chip, is the option to shoot with all three cameras (including selfie) at once with no limits.
However, Apple managed to squeeze a larger battery in the same body and gets a 3,110mAh battery compared to 2,942 mAh unit within the XR cousin.
The iPhone 11 also has an Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass front with an oleophobic coating, Gorilla Glass back with a glossy finish that has better water protection and can endure submersion in up to 4 meters deep water.
Apple made major strides in increasing battery life in its iPhone 11 and 11 Pro devices while lowering the starting price by $50.
Finally, it now has a 20% larger battery than the XS, while the 11 Pro Max enjoys a 25% bump in the capacity over the XS Max.
Apple is scheduled to release its next quarterly financial report in late January 2020.
