Elias Lukwago, Betty Nambooze ditch DP party, join FDC

Updated: Aug 23, 2020

Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago has today crossed from Democratic Party (DP) to join Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

FDC supporters and members were seen holding Lukwago's portraits at their headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Entebbe road before he was unveiled.

They were gathered rejoicing and welcoming their new converts to the party.

Some of the converts included; Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze, Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante and Makindye MP Allan Ssewanyana.

FDC party leaders, including Vice President for Western Region Roland Kaginda, party president Patrick Amuriat, patron Dr Kizza Besigye are set to witness the function.

Betty Nambooze and Elias Lukwago have recently been spotted together at political functions.

The pair is close to top Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders, despite the differences the party has with DP. This has raised speculation that the officials could defect.

According to sources, Lukwago has been tipped to contest as FDC Presidential flagbearer for 2021 elections after efforts to persuade Kizza Besigye to contest for the 5th time failed.

Party President Patrick Amuriat is also expected contest as presidential flag bearer.

This defection comes at a time when FDC is crumbling following the exit of its prominent members like Paul Mwiru, Angelina Osegge, Odonga Otto, Herbert Ariko among others.
