DP's Mao sweats plasma as strongest Party pillars cross to FDC

Updated: Aug 23, 2020

It’s now clear that the Democratic Party is at the verge of extinction and the Party leader is in desperate mode looking for rescue since the strongest and most reliable members have abandoned ship.

The DP die-hards have finally deserted their leader, Norbert Mao, and joined Forum for Democratic Party after several disagreements and disappointments with their leader.

On Tuesday morning, FDC supporters cheerfully welcomed the Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago at their party headquarters in Najjanankubi where he was then nominated as the flag-bearer of the Party in the 2021 Presidential Elections.

The Lord Mayor’s decision to abandon duties in DP influenced the other staunch members to do the same. The Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze, and Rubaga North MP, Moses Kasibante, and Makindye MP, Allan Ssewanyana have all joined FDC according to reliable sources.

These events have unfolded at a time after the DP President questioned the loyalty of these members to the principle and norms of the party.

In 2019, Nobert Mao asked Kampala Lord Mayor Lukwago and other members of the DP to clarify to the rest of the members on where they belonged. He advised them to take a firm decision to either serve the Democratic Party or other opposition parties.

This was after Lukwago was appointed as the Deputy President to Dr Kizza Besigye in what was labelled ‘people’s government’.

During a press conference, Norbert Mao called Erias Lukwago and his colleagues ‘watermelons’ painted green on the outside skin while they have various colours inside.

‘We don’t want watermelons in DP. Those who are only green on the outside but inside they have many colours. These are masqueraders and DP can never tolerate such persons.’’ Mao told the press.

He also cautioned them about the fact that they cannot serve two parties at ago. Therefore, those who want to get out of the Party should leave and give room to those who want to join instead of being a hindrance, ‘standing in the door’.

“You can’t be immersed in the leadership of another party and then pretend to be a DP member. You either enter a house or leave but don’t stand in the door,” DP President elaborated.

After the Press Conference, Mao said that he had aimed the message at Lukwago, Allan Ssewanyana, and Betty Nambooze.

The victimized party members were so disappointed with their leader. Hon. Betty Nambooze was shocked at Mao’s selfishness as she claimed that Mao himself set for them an example.

She said that Norbert Mao went ahead and gave Hon. Amama Mbababzi full support in the 2016 elections, then why was he envious when she supported Dr Kizza Besigye.

She also claimed that all their efforts to join the People’s Government were to antagonize Museveni in order to effect the changes desired by the people.

According to Hon. Betty Nambooze, DP being part of the People’s Government is a blessing and an opportunity for the party to become more popular and influential in Ugandan politics.

‘I am so disappointed that he cannot value people like Nambooze, Lukwago, and Kasibante who are willing to do anything for the betterment of the Party.’’ Nambooze explained their concern.

The public argues that the ingratitude attitude character of DP President has prompted his staunch members to abandon him.

According to some DP supporters, Erias Lukwago, Betty Nambooze, and others have gone where they will be respected, unlike Nobert Mao who thinks they are moles.
