ARUA: In a major breakthrough, the Uganda Police flying squad unit attached to West Nile Region has so far recovered 7 stolen motorcycles and 42 number plates.


The ongoing operations that started on 31st January 2020 to get rid of the rampant motorcycle thefts in Arua.

Police spokesperson for West Nile Region SP Josephine Angucia said it all started with a call from a complainant at Dokolo Police Station.


On 31st January 2020, the office of Flying Squad Unit, Arua started following his motorcycle registration number UEZ 231M with the help of an implanted tracking device.

According to Angucia the officers responded quickly and recovered 8 stolen motorcycles in total, 7 Bajaj and 1 Discovery type in a household at Kasua village, Arua District.


She also noted that 14 pairs of motorcycles number plates and other dismantled spare parts were recovered in the same house.


During the operations, Ronald Eriku, the homeowner fled.


On 4th February 2020 security officers from Arua Central Police Station, went back to the scene, Kasua village and recovered 20 more number plates from a shallow pit.

At the Arua Airfield area, more 8 number plates suspected to have been removed from stolen motorcycles were recovered at a nearby house. Suspects were arrested to assist the Police with investigations.


Angucia urged those who lost their motorcycles to come and identify them at Arua Central Police Station.

She said operations will continue until all the prime suspects are netted, recent incidences of robbing motorcycles and murder of Boda Boda riders have risen in the West Nile region.


Uganda Police continues to appreciate the vigilant and security conscious citizens in their involvement in reporting crimes in their communities.


Members of the public are encouraged to share information timely with police on suspected criminals for effective delivery of law and order.
